Christmas Eve Dinner Ideas Kids Will Love
Introduction to Christmas Eve
Christmas Eve, also known as Silent Night, that is, Christmas Eve (December 24), is one of the Christmas festivals in most Christian societies. But now, due to the fusion of Chinese and Western cultures, it has become a worldwide festival.
Christmas Eve is traditionally the day to decorate the Christmas tree, but as Christmas celebrations start earlier, for example, after Thanksgiving in the United States, many Christmas trees have been erected weeks before Christmas. At that time, thousands of Europeans and Americans will rush home to reunite. An essential Christmas Eve celebration is the party. Most European and American family members reunite at home for a sumptuous dinner, then sit around the roaring fire, play the piano and sing, and share family happiness; or hold a fancy masquerade party and celebrate Christmas Eve all night long. Happy, peaceful, carnival Christmas Eve, reunion night. On Christmas Eve, parents would quietly prepare presents for their children and put them in stockings.
Christmas is one of the festivals celebrated in most Christian societies. Christmas Eve is traditionally the day when Christmas trees are erected, but with Christmas festivities starting earlier, for example, after Thanksgiving in the United States, many Christmas trees are erected weeks before Christmas.
In the UK, Christmas Eve is sometimes regarded as a short day (afternoon break) by banks and trading companies, if it is a working day.
Christmas in the traditional church begins on Christmas Eve. Unless it is a Sunday (see Feast of Advent), the gathering of the vigil is said to be on the morning of December 24. However, attending Christmas parties before midnight is not allowed. The Christmas season continues until January 4th, or if it is a Saturday, until January 5th, when Epiphany (Appearance Day) is celebrated.
Traditionally, many Christians attend midnight mass or gatherings on Christmas Eve, usually held in churches around the world to signal the beginning of Christmas Day. Some churches hold candlelight worship earlier in the evening, usually with a play of the Nativity story, and a feast, usually with turkey or ham as the main course. The traditional dish in Germany is grilled carp.
Origin of Christmas Eve
On the night that Jesus was born, the shepherds who were guarding their sheep in the wilderness suddenly heard a voice from heaven telling them that Jesus was born. According to the “Bible”, Jesus came to the world to save the world and be the savior of all mankind (see Matthew 1:21. He will give birth to a son. You shall name him Jesus. Because he will save his own people from their sins.) So the angels spread the news to more people through these shepherds.
Later, people imitated the angels and spread the news of the birth of Jesus everywhere on the night of Christmas Eve. Until today, it has evolved into the activity of reporting good news.
Christmas Eve is also considered a time when Santa Claus and similar figures in other parts of the world go around delivering gifts to good children. In Italy, gifts are opened on the morning of Christmas Eve, while in the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Portugal and Poland, Christmas gifts are usually opened on Christmas Eve or the morning of Christmas Day. In most parts of Germany, Christmas gifts are opened on Christmas Eve (Bescherung in German). Christmas in Iceland starts at 6pm on Christmas Eve, when church bells are tolled and people enjoy a festive dinner with their families, after which gifts are opened and the evening is spent together. In North America, most families open presents on Christmas morning. For divorced families, children may celebrate with either the father or the mother two days apart. In Spain the gifts will not be opened until the morning of the Díadereyes on January 6. Many traditional Christmas stories take place on Christmas Eve.
